Street Artist Who Hid 0.26 BTC in His Mural Gets a $4,000 Tip

Pascal Boyart, a French street artist and Bitcoin (BTC) supporter known for painting graffiti murals that contain hidden crypto prizes for those with enough sagacity to find them, has recently received a $4,000 tip (about 1 BTC) for his piece titled “Liberté Guidant le Peuple,” painted this year in Paris.

“Liberté Guidant le Peuple” Mural Contained a Hidden Surprise

The “Liberté Guidant le Peuple” mural illustrates the spirit of the Yellow Vest movement that occurred in the streets of France in November 2018. The same piece also included a hidden crypto-related puzzle which contained a prize of 0.26 Bitcoin (BTC).

Boyart posted his mural to Reddit, where it then took about a week for someone to decipher the puzzle and claim their 0.26 BTC prize. The mural’s puzzle included 12 hidden recovery words for the private keys of the wallet containing the Bitcoin.

The winning code cracker had to find the 12 hidden words and decipher their order to open the wallet. Once deciphered, not only did the winner receive 0.26 BTC, but they also revealed a message related to France’s populist Yellow Vest movement which stated:

“Banker usury lie people fight hope union citizen lead triumph yellow horizon.”

Bitcoin Artist Receives $4,000 Donation

Boyart is no stranger to receiving cryptocurrency tips for his murals, as he habitually posts QR codes to his website URL below his finished works.

According to the artist, prior to receiving the anonymous $4,000 donation, he had received about 0.14 Bitcoin (BTC), 5 Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and 1.25 Litecoin (LTC) in tips, totaling around $1,400. These donations have been in response to his painting 3 murals with accompanying QR codes around Paris in the past year.

Blockchain news and publication site Breakermag, a blockchain news and publication site, spoke with Boyart via Telegram about his recent $4,000 (1 Bitcoin at the time) donation.

The artist’s take on it was:

“I couldn’t imagine receiving so much.”

Boyart doesn’t know the identity of his benefactor, stating that this was the first time he had received such a hefty donation from a single anonymous tipper. According to Boyart, individual tips usually amount from a few cents to several dollars.
