DELTA Summit: TRON and Other Big Names Talk About Using Blockchain for Social Good

Earlier this month, the DELTA Summit took place in Malta. The conference is a place for discussion about blockchain technology and the coming together of ideas from all corners of the industry.

More than 3,500 people attended, from experts and big companies to government representatives. Malta is an ideal place to host this kind of event, since the country is particularly open-minded when it comes to blockchain, and is a supporter of the blockchain for social good movement.

It’s this movement, which aims to promote uses of blockchain that benefit society as a whole, which brought many other parties to the event and was a key topic of discussion.

These included TRON. The company, which aims to lay the foundations for a decentralized internet, has pledged $3 million to the Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF), a project which was initiated by the crypto exchange Binance and which aims to push for more ethical and socially conscious uses of blockchain with the help of donations.

Justin Sun, TRON’s CEO, is also committed to making the world a better place using blockchain.

He said:

I believe it is my responsibility to lead the movement in applying blockchain technology to improve people’s livelihoods around the world. I will dedicate the resources I have gained from co-governing the network to causes that will benefit and empower society.

During the summit, at a private reception, TRON and the BCF both spoke about the potential of blockchain to help society, and outlined some ways in which the technology can be used to make life easier for charities.

Binance themselves also attended the reception, and this comes after their promise to donate 100% of their listing fees to the BCF.

These companies and their ambitions are just a few examples. There are plenty of ways blockchain can be used for social good, from easier and more transparent donation processes to saving energy to fighting corruption in the developing world.

Media coverage of cryptocurrency and blockchain often focuses heavily on business and financial angles, overlooking the many ways that blockchain can be used to make a difference in the charity sector.

Conferences like the Delta summit present great opportunities to discuss these possibilities and explore how to make them a reality. For the attendees, it’s the perfect way to highlight their own commitment to building a better future by harnessing the emerging technologies of today
