NEO’s mainnet was launched on October 17, 2016 and has been on stable capacity while steadily growing since its launch 2 years ago.
A Look of NEO’s Milestones & Developments Over the Past 2 Years
When looking back on NEO’s development, partnerships, and achievements over the past 2 years, it’s evident that NEO has had many milestones and memorable moments.
Since the NEO mainnet launch, NEO has had 12 major milestone events related to the development of their public blockchain project.
See these milestones in the image below from NeoNewsToday.
NEO’s Ecosystem of Decentralized Applications (Dapps)
Not only has NEO reached numerous important development milestones, but they have also fostered a growing ecosystem of over 50 cryptocurrency projects and decentralized applications.
This is a good sign that NEO’s ecosystem has flourished in the 2 short years the mainnet has been active. Check out these NEO projects to see just how exciting the NEO ecosystem is.
A Strong Network of NEO Communities
The 2-year mainnet anniversary would never have been possible if it weren’t for NEO’s invaluable communities.
At the time of writing, NEO has hundreds of thousands active community members spanning 8 social media platforms including; Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Discord, Medium, YouTube, WeChat, and Weibo.
In addition to the active communities on social media, other NEO communities consisting of developers and supporters have been created.
Some notable ones are City of Zion, NewEconoLabs, NEO Research, NEO News Today, Red4Sec, and Keymakers. These communities have a strong impact on not just growing public awareness of NEO but also on the research and development of the NEO blockchain.
NEO Organizes Competitions to Celebrate Their 2-Year Anniversary
To celebrate their 2-year mainnet anniversary and to show their appreciation of the invaluable contributions of the NEO community, NEO Global Development (NGD) has announced the launch of a series of events and competitions.
Members of the NEO community will be able to compete with different skill sets for a chance to win GAS prizes.
- The first competition is for NEO community members to upload a short video of themselves to Twitter congratulating NEO on their 2-year mainnet anniversary. Community members will be awarded with varying amounts of GAS as they are selected via draw. Submissions close on October 19.
- The second competition involves community members writing articles regarding technical facets of the NEO network. NEO hopes this competition will encourage community members to foster and understand the blockchain technology behind NEO. Writers of the 20 best articles will be awarded $500 in GAS. Submissions close on December 17.
- The final competition announced by NEO will be a wallpaper design based on the theme “NEO in the Future”. NGD will select 16 winners with the best design and award them with varying amounts of GAS. Submissions close on November 7.
NEO Partners with Arqit to Work on Quantum Resistance
On October 17, 2018, NEO Global Development (NGD) has announced that they will be partnering with Arqit, a non-profit project that is working on quantum resistant technology.
This partnership was established to conduct research on quantum resistance to better develop the blockchain industry.
As one of the biggest blockchain projects and ecosystems in the world NEO has an important thought leadership role and we are pleased to be able to share thinking and development with them on the future of quantum safe blockchain business.
— David Bestwick, chief executive of Arqit
Both the NEO network and Arqit share a common goal of pushing forward with relevant research on quantum resistant technology as quantum computers pose a major challenge to RSA and ECC-based cryptographic mechanisms.
As a pioneer of blockchain technology and one of the biggest blockchain platforms around the globe, it is important to NEO that we remain at the forefront of technology in areas like post quantum cryptography. We are therefore pleased to partner with Arqit and look forward to a collaboration to help to make all blockchain communities safe in a post quantum environment.
