HTC To Release Its Bitcoin Smartphone In Q3 2019

HTC is all set to release another blockchain-based phone, this time a low cost-model of its HTC Exodus 1 phone, HTC Decentralized Chief Officer (DCO), Phil Chen, revealed at the Magical Crypto Conference in New York.

The new model, the Exodus 1s, is slated for a release in Q3 2019, and is expected to sell at somewhere between $250 and  $300.

Speaking to CoinDesk, Chen said that the phone is “ going to be a lot cheaper, it will be a lot more accessible.”

Chen also said that the new phone would support the running of a full bitcoin node, which is perhaps one of the most interesting features. Chen said that this was important, and went on to say,

We think that’s foundational to the whole decentralized internet and just the whole fundamental premise. If you don’t own your keys, you don’t own your bitcoin, you don’t own your crypto.

Chen wants the phone users to be a part of the bitcoin network through their participation on the network.

In-built support for blockchain and cryptocurrencies has grown in the past few months. In addition to HTC’s release of the Exodus blockchain phone and the Finney phone, Samsung offers in-built support for various cryptoassets on its Samsung Galaxy S10 phone.
